The An-12 is one of the most famous Soviet aircraft, developed at the O.K. Antonov Design Bureau in the late 1950s. K. Antonov in the late 1950s. The predecessor of the An-12 was the twin-engine transport aircraft An-8, however, similar foreign aircraft of that time were equipped with 4 engines to improve flight safety. Therefore, Antonov’s “firm” received an order for the development of two four-engine aircraft – the civilian An-10 and the military An-12.
